Job Summary

To ensure accurate coding and compliance, the fully remote full-time Michigan Licensed Senior Medical Coder will perform medical record coding and abstracting reviews, handle appeals processing for outpatient teams, and collaborate with healthcare professionals to resolve coding discrepancies.

Key responsibilities
  • Perform medical record coding and abstracting reviews using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT-4 systems
  • Process appeals and maintain organized records for tracking and compliance, while writing E/M appeals to support accurate reimbursement
  • Collaborate with nursing and analytical teams to address coding denials and ensure adherence to coding guidelines
Required qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information required
  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is required
  • Two years of coding experience using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 in an outpatient setting
  • Experience with outpatient coding for emergency departments, observation, and same-day surgery preferred
  • Commitment to ongoing education and maintaining coding certifications
