Middle Market Underwriting Director

Job Summary

Leading the Middle Market underwriting team, the full-time Middle Market Underwriting Director will oversee risk evaluation and pricing, drive strategic portfolio management, and ensure compliance while fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Directs the Middle Market strategy and oversees operational performance to align with profitability and regulatory requirements
• Models effective leadership by recruiting, training, and developing underwriting staff while conducting performance reviews
• Utilizes data and analytics to inform decisions, identify trends, and enhance underwriting practices

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with 20 years of related experience, including 5 years in leadership, or a Bachelor's Degree with 8 years of experience and 2 years in leadership
• Industry-related certifications such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) are preferred
• Thorough knowledge of commercial insurance underwriting principles and practices
• Expertise in building and maintaining relationships with distribution partners
• Strong interpersonal and executive functioning skills to prioritize work and meet deadlines
