Job Summary
Owning end-to-end multi-state payroll processing, the full-time Payroll & Business Tax Specialist will manage payroll operations, ensure employer tax compliance, and oversee business licensing administration for a remote-first workforce of approximately 230 employees.
Key responsibilities
- Process biweekly payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees across multiple states and manage off-cycle payrolls and adjustments
- Ensure timely filing and remittance of federal, state, and local employer payroll taxes while maintaining compliance with tax obligations
- Oversee the full lifecycle of business licenses and operating permits, ensuring continuous compliance across all jurisdictions
Required qualifications
- 3+ years of multi-state payroll processing experience, including knowledge of California payroll requirements
- Solid understanding of federal and state employer payroll tax obligations and filing requirements
- Experience with business license administration or a willingness to fully manage it
- Proficiency with modern HRIS/payroll platforms, with Rippling experience strongly preferred
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
