Job Summary
To support coding needs for various medical records, the remote PRN IP Facility PCS/ICD Coder will review and assign appropriate codes for inpatient and outpatient services, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and hospital policies.
Key responsibilities
- Reviews entire medical records to assign accurate CPT, ICD, and MS-DRG codes for reimbursement and compliance
- Abstracts essential data for quality improvement and communicates issues to management as needed
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of coding regulations and participates in departmental training to enhance coding accuracy and productivity
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Must possess one of the following coding certifications at the time of hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC, or RHIT/RHIA with a coding credential achieved within one year
- One to three years of coding experience required
- Proficient in computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with an encoder and Electronic Medical Records preferred
- Ability to utilize the internet and electronic resources for research purposes
