Job Summary
To support healthcare coding needs, the remote PRN Multi-Specialty Coder will assign appropriate codes for inpatient and outpatient records, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and maintaining accuracy for financial reimbursement.
Key responsibilities
- Reviews and codes medical records using CPT, ICD, and MS-DRG guidelines for reimbursement and research
- Resolves pre-bill edits and denials for assigned accounts, ensuring all encounters are coded accurately
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of coding regulations and participates in departmental training to enhance coding skills
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- One of the following coding certifications at the time of hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC, or RHIT/RHIA with a coding credential achieved within one year
- One to three years of coding experience required
- Proficient in computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with an encoder and Electronic Medical Records preferred
- Ability to utilize internet and electronic resources for research purposes
