Job Summary

To support healthcare coding needs, the Remote PRN Multi-Specialty Coder will review and code inpatient and outpatient records, ensuring compliance with federal regulations while maintaining a high accuracy rate.

Key responsibilities

• Assign appropriate codes (CPT, ICD, MS-DRG) from patient medical records for reimbursement and research purposes
• Resolve pre-bill edits and denials for assigned accounts while maintaining productivity standards
• Stay updated on coding guidelines and participate in departmental training and in-services

Required qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• One of the following coding certifications at time of hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC, or RHIT/RHIA with a coding credential achieved within one year
• One to three years of experience as a coder
• Proficiency in computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with an encoder and Electronic Medical Records preferred
• Ability to utilize internet and electronic resources for research purposes
