New York Licensed Head of Legal

Job Summary

Leading a small legal and compliance team, the full-time New York Licensed Head of Legal will manage Check's legal function, drive commercial contracting, and oversee regulatory relationships in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Run Check's legal function, building and leading a high-velocity team while leveraging outside counsel efficiently
• Drive commercial contracting by guiding negotiations and MSA reviews to support GTM teams
• Own Check's regulatory relationships, managing licensing, audits, and compliance obligations as a money transmitter

Required qualifications

• Juris Doctorate and active bar membership, preferably in New York or California
• 6+ years of related professional legal experience, combining private practice and in-house counsel experience
• Strong background in commercial contracting and negotiation, with experience managing recurring MSAs
• Exceptional judgment and ability to navigate risk effectively
• Curiosity and resourcefulness in rapidly learning new subject matter and operating in complex environments
