Job Summary

Seeking a remote News Data Automation Lead, the position will design, build, and scale data-driven and AI-assisted journalism workflows while managing automation systems and collaborating with editorial teams to enhance local news coverage.

Key responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and improve data automation pipelines, scrapers, APIs, and AI-assisted workflows for newsroom use cases
• Identify and structure high-impact datasets that drive timely, differentiated coverage across local markets
• Prototype and refine new automation and AI workflows, ensuring they meet editorial needs and enhance journalistic output

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, data science, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 3-5 years of experience in journalism, data journalism, or related fields with strong technical skills in Python, scraping, and data automation
• Familiarity with AI tools and their responsible use in journalism
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment
• Experience working with public records or datasets relevant to local journalism
