North Carolina Licensed Associate Controller

Job Summary

Providing strategic leadership in a remote capacity, the North Carolina Licensed Associate Controller will oversee payroll, tax compliance, fringe benefits accounting, and international operations for Duke University and Duke University Health System, managing a team of approximately 25 professionals to ensure compliance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead tax compliance efforts, including oversight of IRS Form 990 preparation and audits
• Manage payroll operations for over 52,000 employees, ensuring timely and accurate compensation payments
• Oversee fringe benefits accounting and forecasting, supporting financial planning and decision-making

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
• Ten years of progressively responsible experience with significant management and leadership experience
• Preferred MBA, Master of Accounting (MAcc), CPA, and/or CIA designation
• Experience with SAP or other large-scale ERP systems
• Higher education experience is advantageous
