Job Summary
To support hospital coding operations, the full-time remote North Carolina Licensed Medical Coder will assign and review ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT codes for medical services while ensuring compliance with regulations and optimizing reimbursement processes.
Key responsibilities
- Assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes accurately and productively
- Reviews and applies coding edits from NCD, LCD, and CCI to ensure compliance
- Provides information to healthcare staff regarding coding practices and regulatory changes
Required qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Successful completion of the UNC HCS Hospital Outpatient Coder Proficiency Test
- One of the following certifications: AHIMA or AAPC
- At least 12 months of experience in hospital coding
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding
