Job Summary
To support the HIM Hospital Coding team, the full-time North Carolina Licensed Medical Coder will perform technical and administrative work by accurately assigning ICD-10 and other medical codes for professional services while ensuring compliance with regulations in a remote environment.
Key responsibilities
- Assigns ICD-10 diagnostic and procedural codes for inpatient cases, ensuring accuracy and productivity
- Participates in DRG Reconciliation and analyzes information for optimal reimbursement
- Communicates with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and coding practices
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; higher-level degree may satisfy this requirement
- Must possess AHIMA or AAPC certification and credential
- Two years of experience in hospital coding
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding and medical terminology
- Successful completion of the UNC HCS IP Coder Proficiency Test
