Job Summary

To support the HIM Hospital Coding team, the full-time North Carolina Licensed Medical Coder will perform technical and administrative work by accurately assigning ICD-10 and other medical codes for professional services while ensuring compliance with regulations in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities
  • Assigns ICD-10 diagnostic and procedural codes for inpatient cases, ensuring accuracy and productivity
  • Participates in DRG Reconciliation and analyzes information for optimal reimbursement
  • Communicates with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and coding practices
Required qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; higher-level degree may satisfy this requirement
  • Must possess AHIMA or AAPC certification and credential
  • Two years of experience in hospital coding
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding and medical terminology
  • Successful completion of the UNC HCS IP Coder Proficiency Test
