Job Summary

To support the coding operations of a healthcare facility, the full-time Ohio Licensed Medical Coder will perform facility coding and abstracting for outpatient cases, ensuring accurate assignment of diagnoses and procedures while maintaining productivity and quality standards in a remote work environment.

Key responsibilities:
  • Assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, and CPT-4 codes by reviewing medical documentation and ensuring compliance with coding guidelines
  • Manage insufficient or conflicting documentation by following department policies for physician queries and transaction coding
  • Abstract necessary data elements to complete UB04 forms and verify demographic information for accuracy
Required qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Completion of a 2-year program and coding certification from AHIMA or AAPC
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, and CPT-4 classification systems
  • Eligibility to sit for certification exam within 6 months of hire or completion of the coding program
  • Knowledge of ambulatory reimbursement schemes and CMS guidelines
