Outpatient Acute Care Coder

Job Summary

A company is looking for an Outpatient Acute Care Coder.

Key Responsibilities

• Assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to patient charts using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS
• Review hospital outpatient medical documentation to ensure proper coding, billing, and compliance
• Utilize encoder software to validate coding accuracy and meet medical necessity requirements

Required Qualifications

• One to three years of experience in medical record coding in an acute care setting
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred
• AHIMA or AAPC certification required (e.g., RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC)
• Functional knowledge of EMR, encoder, and CDI tools
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
