Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

Responsible for reviewing medical records and performing coding on all diagnoses and procedures, the full-time Outpatient Coder will ensure accurate coding for reimbursement and maintain compliance with regulatory standards while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Abstract, code, and sequence clinical information from various medical records, ensuring accurate principal and secondary diagnoses and procedure codes
• Utilize coding principles and reimbursement expertise to assign appropriate codes and maintain compliance with external regulations
• Track productivity and maintain a quality rating of 95% or higher while adhering to company policies and HIPAA standards

Required qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of coding experience in outpatient settings
• Knowledge of coding conventions and rules established by AHIMA, AMA, AHA, and CMS
• Experience with medical coding software and encoders
• Familiarity with JCAHO standards and coding compliance regulations
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting deadlines
