Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support healthcare organizations, the PRN Outpatient Coder will accurately abstract and enter data into electronic medical record systems while adhering to coding guidelines and maintaining a coding accuracy rate of 95% or better, with a commitment of 15-20 hours per week as needed.

Key responsibilities:

• Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to various outpatient accounts based on established workflows
• Abstract and enter coded data for hospital statistical and reporting requirements
• Communicate with physicians and Clinical Documentation staff to resolve coding discrepancies and improve documentation quality

Required qualifications:

• Possession of an approved AHIMA or AAPC coding credential; CCS credential preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of coding experience, with specific experience in Trauma Level 1 and Academic Teaching facilities
