Job Summary
To support the hospital revenue cycle, the full-time Outpatient Coding Specialist will perform coding on diagnoses, procedures, and professional services while working remotely, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and optimizing reimbursement through accurate code selection.
Key responsibilities
- Abstract, code, and sequence medical and surgical procedures, diagnoses, and treatment modalities into software programs
- Provide feedback and education to healthcare providers on coding methodologies and documentation enhancements
- Review and analyze medical records for accuracy and completeness, ensuring compliance with accrediting and reimbursement agencies
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; completion of a coding certificate program through AHIMA or AAPC
- Six months of practicum experience in ICD-10-CM or CPT coding for Outpatient Coding Specialist I; two years for II; three years for III
- Certification as a Certified Professional Coder Associate (CPC-A) or Certified Coding Associate (CCA) is required
- Knowledge of medical terminology, coding conventions, and relevant classification systems
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations
