PfES Technical Specialist

Job Summary

Providing oversight and advisory support for the development of a national Payment for Forest Ecosystem Services (PfES) program, the part-time PfES Technical Specialist will conduct reviews, facilitate knowledge exchanges, and propose frameworks for benefit sharing and fund distribution, all while working remotely for a duration of 60 days.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct reviews of existing benefit sharing models and provide recommendations for the PfES structure
• Facilitate knowledge exchanges between Lao PDR and Vietnam regarding fund structures and reporting requirements
• Propose a framework for piloting the PfES program in Lao PDR based on lessons learned from Vietnam

Required qualifications

• Advanced university degree in natural resource management, climate finance, or a related discipline; a bachelor's degree requires two additional years of relevant experience
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in forestry, natural resources, or PES design and sustainable financing
• Working knowledge of English at level C
• Experience advising governments and development agencies in forestry and climate finance
• Familiarity with PES schemes, biodiversity offsets, or REDD+ finance
