Job Summary
Supporting the operational transition of NOAA's Warn-on-Forecast Systems, the full-time remote Physical Scientist Developer will focus on model development, system integration, and optimization while ensuring the cloud-based WoFS version 1 meets operational requirements and expanding its geographical capabilities.
Key responsibilities
- Harden the cloud-based WoFSv1 system to meet operational implementation requirements
- Conduct model performance evaluations and simulations to assess forecast skills and system value
- Develop new WoFS products and a unified workflow for the WoFSv2 system
Required qualifications
- M.S. or higher in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Advanced knowledge of Numerical Weather Prediction modeling and atmospheric physics
- Experience with weather forecasting systems based on WRF and MPAS
- Strong proficiency in Fortran and Python, including scientific packages for AI/ML
- Experience in cloud High Performance Computing environments is highly desired
