Principal AI Engineer

Job Summary

To define and build the orchestration and retrieval systems for the enterprise's central AI platform, the full-time remote Principal AI Engineer will design abstraction layers, establish tool-surface strategies, and mentor engineering teams while ensuring optimal integration of tools and data.

Key responsibilities

• Design the orchestration and abstraction layers connecting LLMs to tools and data
• Build and operate MCP servers, setting standards for tool exposure and versioning
• Define retrieval systems and strategies for optimizing tool selection and multi-agent patterns

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred
• 12 or more years of experience in software/AI engineering, particularly with LLM orchestration and retrieval systems
• Deep hands-on experience with LLM orchestration frameworks and agentic patterns
• Experience designing abstraction layers and platform APIs for multiple teams
• Strong understanding of retrieval strategies, including chunking, embeddings, and hybrid search
