Principal Backend Engineer

Job Summary

Owning the backend architecture for a cutting-edge AI platform, the full-time remote Principal Backend Engineer will focus on scalability, reliability, and the transition from prototype to production-grade systems while mentoring senior engineers and driving technical roadmaps.

Key responsibilities

• Design and manage the end-to-end backend architecture for multi-tenant, high-throughput AI extraction workloads
• Architect and evolve AI pipelines, balancing accuracy, latency, and cost while implementing robust API design standards
• Lead AWS production deployment efforts, ensuring security, compliance, and observability across the platform

Required qualifications

• 12+ years of backend engineering experience with a focus on distributed systems and production-grade platform design
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and hands-on experience with FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, and async programming
• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing, and multi-tenant isolation
• Proven experience with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, and IAM, along with container-based deployments using Docker
• Experience integrating LLM APIs in production environments, including rate limiting and multi-provider failover strategies
