Principal Data Engineer

Job Summary

Serving as the most senior individual contributor and technical authority, the full-time Principal Data Engineer will set architectural direction, build complex data components, and mentor engineers in a hybrid work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Set and evolve the technical architecture for IAA's data platform on the Azure data and analytics stack
• Design and build high-impact data pipelines and frameworks that support advanced analytics and machine learning
• Define engineering standards and drive their adoption through mentorship and example

Required qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience as a senior or principal-level data engineer with a proven track record in building production data platforms
• Deep expertise in Azure BI/data technology stack, including Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Power BI
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and SQL, along with strong software engineering fundamentals
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex business problems through robust technical design
• Strong mentoring skills and the ability to influence engineering practices without formal authority
