Principal Data Engineer

Job Summary

As a strategic technical leader, the full-time remote Principal Data Engineer will define and evolve the enterprise data platform strategy using Databricks, focusing on governance, data product development, and enabling self-service analytics across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Define and evolve the technical vision and roadmap for the Databricks platform and broader data ecosystem
• Drive the evolution of the federated data operating model, ensuring balance between domain ownership and enterprise governance
• Establish standards for metadata management, data quality, and develop reusable data products for self-service analytics

Required qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform architecture, or governance
• Deep expertise in designing and operating enterprise-scale Databricks Lakehouse platforms
• Extensive experience with Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Databricks Workflows
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and PySpark for building and optimizing data processing workloads
• Experience with semantic layers, metrics governance, and self-service analytics capabilities
