Principal Data Engineer

Job Summary

Leading the architectural vision for the data platform, the full-time Principal Data Engineer will manage technical direction, establish engineering standards, and drive critical architectural decisions in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Own the long-term technical architecture for data ingestion, orchestration, and event streaming, driving high-stakes decisions for the platform
• Establish and enforce engineering standards and production readiness criteria across all data systems, ensuring data quality and observability
• Lead incident response for platform-level incidents, facilitating blameless root cause analyses and driving systemic improvements

Required qualifications

• 15+ years of experience designing and owning data platform architecture at scale
• Deep expertise in cloud-native data platforms, particularly GCP BigQuery, with multi-cloud fluency required
• Hands-on experience with modern data stack tools such as dbt, Airflow, Kafka, and Databricks
• Proven track record of establishing engineering standards and driving adoption across multiple teams
• Experience with data governance and compliance frameworks in regulated environments, including HIPAA and GDPR
