Principal Engineer

Job Summary

Driving the architecture and implementation of large-scale initiatives, the full-time remote Principal Engineer will lead technical direction, produce high-quality code, and mentor engineers while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and implementation of major initiatives within the grantmaking platform
• Provide technical leadership throughout all phases of engineering work, from design to maintenance
• Mentor engineers and contribute to design discussions, raising the architectural literacy of the team

Required qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, particularly as a principal engineer or architect on a complex SaaS platform
• Deep experience as a full-stack engineer, especially with Ruby on Rails and frontend technologies like React
• Strong foundation in computer science with a proven track record of optimizing web application performance
• Experience with AWS and DevOps fundamentals, including deployment and scaling considerations
• Dedication to documentation and a willingness to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving development environment
