Principal Engineer - Data Platform

Job Summary

Leading the technical vision and architecture for the FinOps Engineering Platform, the full-time Principal Engineer - Data Platform will design and develop the GCS Data Warehouse while overseeing the migration from Cloudera to a modern lakehouse architecture, all within a flexible or remote work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end technical architecture of the FinOps Engineering Platform, ensuring coherence and scalability across systems
• Lead the design and development of the GCS Data Warehouse, managing the migration strategy with zero data loss
• Set the technical vision and multi-year roadmap, establishing standards and interfaces for each workstream

Required qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in software or data engineering, with a Bachelor's degree; or 12 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 8 years of experience in a related field
• Proven track record as the lead architect for large-scale, cloud-native data platforms, particularly in migrating from legacy systems
• Deep expertise in modern data stack technologies such as Trino, dbt, and Apache Iceberg
• Hands-on experience with cloud cost management and FinOps practices
• Strong knowledge of software quality principles, including reliability and observability
