Principal Engineer - Event-Driven Systems
Job Summary
To support a growing autonomous commerce platform, the full-time remote Principal Engineer - Event-Driven Systems will design and own the architecture connecting core commerce applications, focusing on event-driven systems, data modeling, and operational data flow.
Key responsibilities
- Own event-driven commerce architecture by designing event semantics, contracts, and observability for safe consumption across products
- Evolve core commerce data models by partnering with backend teams to improve operational data structures and simplify legacy schemas
- Connect applications to the data platform by establishing reliable data movement architecture and defining contracts between systems
Required qualifications
- 10+ years of professional experience in backend, infrastructure, or distributed-systems engineering with significant technical leadership
- Strong experience with event-driven architectures and data-intensive applications
- Deep understanding of transactional data modeling, consistency, and distributed-systems tradeoffs
- Experience with streaming, CDC, or messaging infrastructure for reliable operational data movement
- Strong database fundamentals, particularly with high-scale transactional databases like Aurora/MySQL
