Principal Engineering Manager

Job Summary

Leading the Identity & Access Management team, the full-time remote Principal Engineering Manager will oversee the engineering strategy and technical roadmap for GitHub's IAM services, focusing on identity lifecycle, entitlements, and privileged access while fostering high-performing teams and ensuring operational maturity.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the engineering strategy and technical roadmap for GitHub's Identity & Access Management service area
• Build and support high-performing engineering teams by coaching engineers and fostering a culture of ownership and operational excellence
• Drive multi-quarter IAM platform evolution, ensuring systems meet security, regulatory, reliability, and usability needs

Required qualifications

• 11+ years of experience in Software Engineering or related technical discipline with proven experience in production software coding
• 5+ years of people management experience
• Experience with identity directories and providers such as Okta or Azure AD
• Familiarity with authentication and access-control patterns, including OAuth and SAML
• Strong understanding of privileged access management and operating IAM services in cloud environments
