Principal Machine Learning Engineer

Job Summary

Leading the development of advanced machine learning algorithms, the full-time Principal Machine Learning Engineer will implement AI capabilities across Atlassian's products while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement machine learning system architectures and models for AI features
• Lead experimentation and evaluation processes to ensure model effectiveness
• Provide technical mentorship to junior ML engineers and contribute to AI strategy development

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
• At least five years of relevant industry experience in machine learning or data science
• Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with production languages like Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with Spark and cloud-based environments such as AWS or Databricks
• Experience in building and deploying machine learning models using large datasets
