Principal Machine Learning Engineer

Job Summary

As a hands-on Principal Machine Learning Engineer in the Confluence AI organization, the full-time role will set technical direction, design and build production-grade ML systems, and lead the development of AI capabilities to enhance user experiences across Confluence, with the flexibility to work remotely or in an office.

Key responsibilities

• Set technical direction for machine learning and AI initiatives that enhance content creation, editing, and recommendations in Confluence
• Design and evolve production-grade ML systems and supporting infrastructure for reliable AI feature delivery at scale
• Lead the translation of product opportunities into technical strategies and measurable outcomes, driving customer-facing AI capabilities

Required qualifications

• Extensive experience in machine learning and AI product development
• Proven track record of designing and implementing production-grade ML systems
• Strong understanding of model behavior, retrieval, ranking, and automated evaluation
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and design
• Ability to mentor and raise engineering standards within teams
