Principal Product Designer

Job Summary

Passionate about chess, the fully remote Principal Product Designer will own the design of core Chess.com experiences, collaborating with cross-functional teams to create polished, intuitive interfaces for millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Own the design of core Chess.com experiences and ensure design-to-code alignment throughout the implementation process
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and leadership to define problems and build effective product experiences
• Design polished interfaces for web and mobile using Chess.com's design system and present design proposals backed by user insights

Required qualifications

• 5+ years of experience designing consumer-facing products or games with a large user base
• A portfolio showcasing a strong understanding of interface and user experience design
• Mastery of UI design fundamentals including typography, color, layout, and visual hierarchy
• Strong experience in designing for both web and mobile applications
• Fluency in Figma and experience with agentic tools like Cursor and Claude Code for prototyping
