Principal Software Engineer

Job Summary

As a key member of the Advanced Analytics Platform team, the full-time remote Principal Software Engineer will define technical strategies, design and maintain scalable data systems, and mentor engineers to enhance Toast's data infrastructure and analytics capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain resilient and scalable data systems critical to the success of Toast's analytics products
• Develop and execute technical strategies to address complex business challenges through data-driven decision-making
• Mentor engineers and foster a culture of continuous improvement and engineering excellence

Required qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering with expertise in data platform or distributed systems engineering
• Strong background in data lakehouse technologies, streaming infrastructure, and cloud-native data platforms
• Proven ability to deliver high-impact, scalable solutions in complex, multi-product environments
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills, guiding teams through architectural transformations
• Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
