Principal Software Engineer

Job Summary

Working remotely as a contract Principal Software Engineer, the successful candidate will lead efforts to improve system reliability by diagnosing complex production issues, driving systemic fixes across a high-scale platform, and collaborating with engineering teams to enhance operational tooling and automation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex production triage and incident response across APIs, payment flows, and distributed services
• Debug real-world issues involving transaction lifecycles and system dependencies, turning incidents into permanent fixes
• Improve platform reliability through code changes, automation, observability, and better system design

Required qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering, SRE, or production engineering with distributed systems
• Strong experience debugging production issues end-to-end, including code, infrastructure, and data dependencies
• Proficiency in Ruby (Rails) and/or Java services, AWS, and cloud-native environments
• Hands-on experience with observability tools such as Splunk, Datadog, or New Relic
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
