Principal Software Engineer

Job Summary

To set the technical direction for GitHub's web UI platform, the full-time remote Principal Software Engineer will manage performance, accessibility, consistency, and availability while driving cross-team initiatives and establishing development standards.

Key responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for the web UI platform, balancing architecture with hands-on execution
• Drive large cross-team initiatives and migrations, ensuring progress without disrupting product development
• Establish patterns, standards, and paved paths for frontend development to enhance scalability across teams

Required qualifications

• 11+ years of experience in Software Engineering or related technical discipline with proven experience in production software coding across various languages
• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field with 7+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience
• Proven ability to produce architecture and design proposals and evaluate tradeoffs
• Experience mentoring engineers through design and code reviews
• Strong understanding of frontend performance, accessibility, and UX principles
