Principal Software Engineer

Job Summary

Leading the architectural evolution of the Coupa Supplier Platform, the remote Principal Software Engineer will manage the transition from a Rails monolith to a robust, scalable microservices architecture while mentoring engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement architectural changes to enhance system performance and scalability
• Establish best practices for API design, microservice boundaries, and deployment pipelines
• Mentor engineering teams, guiding architectural decisions and fostering a collaborative environment

Required qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in building B2B SaaS solutions at scale with leadership roles
• Proven experience in evolving legacy systems into microservices in a production environment
• Deep understanding of API-driven services and multi-tenant architectures
• Strong foundation in modern deployment practices, including CI/CD and cloud infrastructure
• Ability to mentor teams and communicate effectively across engineering, product, and business domains
