Principal Software Engineer

Job Summary

To enhance the search capabilities of Elasticsearch, the full-time Principal Software Engineer will lead initiatives focused on developing new search features, improving relevance, and resolving bugs while collaborating with a globally distributed team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of industry-leading search engine features, ensuring speed and relevance in search results
• Contribute to the codebase by building new features and addressing bugs, while simplifying code understandability
• Collaborate with community members and engineers worldwide on search relevance improvements and issue resolution

Required qualifications

• Professional experience with search and vector databases, including algorithms like HNSW and IVF
• Strong proficiency in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs
• Ability to work autonomously, managing projects from design to implementation
• Experience with various data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, and PostgreSQL
• Proven track record of leveraging AI to optimize code and debug complex systems
