Protocol Engineer

Job Summary

A company is looking for a Protocol Engineer to advance an encrypted messaging protocol and contribute to product development.

Key Responsibilities

• Advance the encrypted XMTP messaging protocol to enhance product development and capabilities
• Collaborate with team members to design systems, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver improvements focusing on security, scalability, and efficiency
• Engage as an open source contributor to implement changes that benefit the company and promote privacy-preserving applications

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience as a staff-level software engineer
• Expertise in mobile development using Kotlin, Swift, React Native, or C++ with production-ready SDKs or apps
• Solid experience with Rust or a strong interest in learning Rust
• Experience in building and maintaining communication protocols, SDKs, or developer-facing APIs
• Prior involvement in open source SDK projects and public communications
