Q'eqchi Linguist

Job Summary

To support sensitive law enforcement efforts, the part-time Q'eqchi Linguist will perform real-time and recorded transcription from Q'eqchi to English, capturing accurate written products and communicating pertinent information to law enforcement personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Produce verbal and written synopses and transcriptions from live or recorded communications in Q'eqchi
• Maintain a master list of slang terms and codes used by specific groups throughout the project
• Transcribe and translate pertinent calls and documents, ensuring court-ready accuracy and formatting

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum one (1) year of translation experience in Q'eqchi
• Knowledge of Q'eqchi colloquialisms, slang terms, and regional expressions
• Ability to achieve a score of 3 or better on a third-party language assessment in English and Q'eqchi
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
