Job Summary
To support the design and optimization of nuclear fuel systems, the full-time R&D Nuclear Engineer in Fuel Performance will leverage advanced multiphysics computational tools, execute detailed fuel performance simulations, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, working either remotely or onsite in Lynchburg, VA.
Key responsibilities:
- Execute detailed fuel performance simulations using MOOSE/BISON to evaluate thermo-mechanical responses and material behavior
- Support R&D-driven fuel design activities by integrating experimental data and advanced material models into engineering decisions
- Analyze irradiation test results and microstructural data to calibrate and improve fuel performance codes
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience; an advanced degree may be considered in lieu of experience
- Experience with multi-physics modeling and computational materials science tools
- Understanding of nuclear fuel behavior under irradiation
- Proficiency in scientific programming languages (FORTRAN, Python, C, C++, or similar)
