Job Summary

The E-Learning Writing Manager is responsible for the writing of high-quality custom e-learning courses, directly and through qualified freelance instructional designers. The managers who make up the Artisan Production Department are the face of Artisan to our clients. Together they create strong professional relationships and guide clients through the e-learning production process. We pride ourselves on creating courses with our clients not just for our clients.

The E-Learning Writing Manager oversees the process of writing and delivering custom e-learning action maps, learning objectives, outlines, storyboards, and other documents ready to be developed into learner-centric e-learning products that meet specific client needs. In this role, the Writing Manager works on numerous concurrent projects in coordination with the Project Manager and Development Manager, along with the contractors and Artisan staff who are assigned to each project. This close collaboration provides a smooth client experience and results in projects that are delivered on time, on budget, and to established quality standards.

This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States. It offers a salary along with monthly technology and health stipends.

Accountability - General
--Serve as primary writer for select projects.
--Onboard new contract writers and copy editors to meet Artisan standards and expectations.
--Provide ongoing team and individual development opportunities for contract writers.
--Participate in contractor group communication and relationship building.
--Advise on needs for additional quantity and types of contract writers and copy editors to ensure adequate supply of resources.
--Create and maintain current process documentation for storyboard writing and copy-editing tasks.
--Create and maintain current Artisan style guides for storyboard writing.
--Collaborate with other managers on overall system improvements including process changes, documentation, and training.
--Write courses for internal Artisan use. (eg: sales samples, staff/contractor development)
--Maintain current expertise on the latest e-learning instructional design thinking, storyboarding, methodologies, and tools.
--Carry the Artisan banner for a quality and innovative course writing.

Accountability - Project Specific
--Perform action mapping, needs analysis, etc., as needed.
--Participate with the project manager in selecting the appropriate contractor(s).
--Follow budget, schedule, and time allotments.
--Direct content gathering and handoff to the writer.
--Serve as liaison between the client and the writer (or delegate as appropriate).
--Serve as client point of contact for the writing/storyboard specifics of the project.
--Review and sign off on all writing work (internal and external) and deliverables.
--Provide feedback, direction, and edits to ensure the highest quality writing product/storyboard.
--Apprise the Project Manager of potential changes to scope, schedule, and budget, working together to resolve issues.
--Participate in client status calls relative to the writing part of the project.
--Participate in post-project Lessons Learned meeting.
--Work as a team with other Production Department managers to create a smooth client experience, ensuring that cost, quality, and time goals are achieved.

Qualifications
--BA or BS, or equivalent experience
--5+ years of practical e-learning instructional design experience
--Leadership experience with multi-function project teams of 3+ members
--Experience working with independent contractors
--Experience interacting with stakeholders at varying organizational levels
Skills Required:
--Sufficient level of e-learning and instructional design technical knowledge to evaluate and prepare storyboards for development
--Ability to guide writers and provide feedback to ensure that courses are written creatively and utilize solid instructional design to support client needs
--Strong client management skills, including the ability to collaborate with clients and represent Artisan professionally during the course of entire projects
--Strong interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building
--Excellent oral and written communication skills
--Creative approach to problem solving with the ability to focus on details and the big picture
--Familiarity with Section 508 and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
--Understanding of systems training in an e-learning application
--Working knowledge of e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate 360 products and others.
--Consultative experience to conduct action mapping and/or other forms of training needs analysis
--Ability to collaborate and work productively on a virtual team
--Commitment to ongoing professional development with a focus in e-learning instructional design best practices
