Job Summary

To support efficient outpatient services, the full-time Remote Outpatient Coder will be responsible for assigning accurate medical codes for diagnoses and procedures in an ambulatory and hospital outpatient setting, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and reimbursement standards.

Key responsibilities
  • Reviews medical records to identify and accurately code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM conventions
  • Maintains a coding accuracy rate of 95% or greater while meeting established productivity standards
  • Queries physicians for clarification on documentation as needed to ensure proper code assignment
Required qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or relevant coding certification required
  • Three years of hospital or ambulatory coding experience required, with specific experience in surgery/observation and emergency department coding
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding conventions and coding compliance policies
  • Proficient in navigating a Windows-based application environment
