Job Summary
A not-for-profit healthcare company needs applicants for an opening for a Remote Outpatient Coder I in Scarborough.
Core Responsibilities Include:
- Accurately assigning ICD-9-CM (ICD-10-CM) and CPT-4 coding of diagnoses and procedures for outpatient medical records
- Abstracting to determine accuracy & completeness of the outpatient record utilizing 3M Coding Reimbursement &/or Optum & Epic Systems
- Evaluating medical necessity & Correct Coding Initiative edits & resolving them
Position Requirements Include:
- Associates degree in a science field strongly preferred with completion of an accredited program through AHIMA or AAPC
- CCA, CCS, RHIT, RHIA and/or Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or CPC-A credential required
- Completion of the MH Coder I apprenticeship program
- OR 1-2 years' experience coding in an outpatient setting using 3M Coding and/or Optum Reimbursement encoder and CAC products
- Demonstrated, applied knowledge of ICD-9-CM (ICD-10-CM) and CPT-4 coding guidelines and principles required
- Ability to apply broad guidelines to specific coding situations, independently, utilizing discretion & significant level of analytical ability
