Job Summary

Position: VAO News Writer
A VAO News Writer is responsible for identifying, researching, and writing daily articles relevant to the federal acquisition workforce based on publicly available resources, as well as creation of articles that provide tips and strategies for improving business-specific soft skills' (such as how to hold a successful meeting, how to give constructive feedback, how to be more organized at work, etc.)
- Must be a versatile writer, with understanding of the federal acquisition field and terminology, able to clearly and engagingly summarize sometimes dry policy topics and regulations, with scrupulous accuracy.
- Ability to write confidently and clearly about new technologies and their applications to the client base (e.g. software development, RPA, bots, AI, blockchain, etc.) is a plus.
Required Skills:
Read and interpret complex documents; condense and paraphrase the salient portions accurately and engagingly.
Write seriously about important policies and processes, but position headlines and ledes in a creative and playful way to engage readers.
Extract informational essence from trade press articles (often laden with lingo and buzzwords but light on actual content).
Conduct internet research to verify facts and obtain supporting/supplementary sources.
Remain careful and detail-oriented for all assigned tasks.
Job Performance Requirements:
Excellent reading comprehension, grammar, and writing skills (adaptable to specified style guidelines).
Detail-oriented and self-driven to produce work of the highest standards.
Able to work productively and efficiently with minimal supervision, coordinating actively and responsively as member of remote team.
Positive attitude and flexibility are musts.
Job Description:
Telecommuting / remote position, Sunday through Thursday. Final submissions for the next day's publication should be posted by midnight eastern time.
Hours are largely self-scheduled, though each weekday we work as a team to review the day's breaking news from about 3:15 to 4:15 pm, and there are occasional team teleconferences, generally occurring between 12 pm and 3 pm eastern.
