Research Associate in Atmospheric Science

Job Summary

To support a government customer, the full-time Research Associate in Atmospheric Science will conduct innovative research at the intersection of weather prediction and machine learning, developing and verifying forecast improvements while collaborating with engineering and product teams.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct innovative research leveraging satellite observations for weather prediction and machine learning
• Develop, verify, and document forecast improvements that provide measurable value to customers
• Communicate research results through internal reviews, customer discussions, and conferences or publications

Required qualifications

• Graduate degree in atmospheric science, meteorology, computer science, or a related field
• 2+ years of experience developing machine learning models for weather applications
• Strong fundamentals in ML engineering, including model training, validation, and evaluation
• Experience with cloud-based computing environments and handling large meteorological datasets
• Proficiency in modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
