Job Summary

To support a critical research initiative, the remote Research Consultant on FGM will assess the scope, underlying drivers, and legal frameworks surrounding Female Genital Mutilation in Southern Africa, focusing on data collection, stakeholder engagement, and report drafting over a two-month contract period.

Key responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and field data collection through interviews and focus group discussions
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify trends and legal gaps related to FGM
  • Draft and finalize a comprehensive research report with actionable recommendations for policy and strategic initiatives
Required qualifications
  • An advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Human Rights Law, Gender Studies, Public Health, Sociology, or a related field
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in human rights research, particularly on FGM or Gender-Based Violence in Southern Africa
  • Familiarity with the SADC regional integration agenda and parliamentary processes
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of French or Portuguese is a distinct advantage
