Research Lead in AI Safety

Job Summary

Leading research initiatives in pre-training safety, the full-time Research Lead in AI Safety will develop and direct strategies to mitigate risks associated with AI capabilities while collaborating with technical teams and conducting hands-on experiments in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Articulate and implement a research agenda focused on mitigating catastrophic risks from advanced AI systems
• Lead and mentor a team of technical staff in executing research projects and scaling effective methods
• Share research findings through publications and presentations to promote adoption and influence policy

Required qualifications

• Strong research background in AI or a related technical field (e.g., computer science, mathematics, physics)
• Deep experience with language-model pretraining and controlled training experiments
• Proven ability to build large-scale pipelines for training data management
• Experience in leading teams and mentoring early-career researchers
• Ability to communicate complex methods to both technical and non-technical audiences
