Research Scientist, Atmospheric Science

Job Summary

Seeking a full-time Research Scientist specializing in Atmospheric Science and Machine Learning, the candidate will conduct innovative research, develop forecast improvements, and collaborate with engineering teams to enhance weather prediction systems in Silver Spring, MD.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct innovative research at the intersection of weather prediction and machine learning, leveraging satellite observations
• Develop, verify, and document forecast improvements that deliver measurable value to customers
• Partner with engineering and product teams to transition research advances into scalable, operational systems

Required qualifications

• Graduate degree in atmospheric science, meteorology, computer science, or a related field
• 4+ years of experience developing ML models for weather applications
• Strong ML engineering fundamentals, including model training, validation, evaluation, and documentation
• Experience with cloud-based computing environments and handling large meteorological datasets
• Proficiency with modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
