Job Summary
Joining an interdisciplinary research team, the full-time salaried Research Scientist in Agricultural Economics will conduct independent research, contribute to project management, and engage with policy partners while working primarily onsite in Blacksburg, Virginia, with some remote work permissible by mutual agreement.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct independent research and manage projects related to agricultural economics and remote sensing
- Prepare geospatial and administrative data for analysis, applying statistical approaches to uncover data relationships
- Generate visualizations, prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, and present findings to diverse audiences
Required qualifications
- PhD in agricultural economics, applied economics, or a related quantitative field with relevant research experience
- Demonstrated experience with data analysis in R, Python, or similar language using version control (e.g., Git)
- Experience in evaluating economic and policy implications of agricultural monitoring techniques using remotely sensed data
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with geospatial analysis and remote sensing data, including cloud platforms such as Google Earth Engine
