Job Summary
To support outpatient coding efforts, the full-time Rhode Island Licensed Coding Specialist will review clinical documentation, assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, and ensure compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Assign accurate APC and coding edits using 3M 360 Finder, ensuring adherence to National Correct Code Initiative Edits
- Review medical records to confirm documentation supports code assignments and report any insufficiencies to physicians
- Monitor and resolve rejected accounts on the Claims Edit Report, researching coding conflicts and updating patient financial accounts as needed
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, with successful completion of a formal coding educational program
- Coding certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
- One to two years of experience in outpatient coding or billing
- Ability to read and understand outpatient clinic medical record documentation
- Proficiency in maintaining established quality and productivity standards
