Job Summary
Supporting the USGS EROS Center, the full-time Satellite-Derived Bathymetry Scientist will conduct imagery analysis, optimize algorithms for near-shore bathymetry, and integrate various data sources, with the option for hybrid remote or fully remote work.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct imagery discovery, selection, and download while compiling validation datasets and generating custom validation grids for analysis
- Investigate bottom type and seafloor structure mapping using various satellite imagery sources and AI/ML techniques to enhance USGS SDB algorithms
- Evaluate the applicability of Landsat Aquatic Reflectance products to improve USGS SDB computational workflows
Required qualifications
- Master's degree in Earth Science, Natural Science, Physical Science, or related field with a focus on geography, remote sensing, or GIS
- At least 5 years of directly related professional experience
- Fluency in aquatic science principles and mastery of basic remote sensing applications
- Experience applying AI/ML techniques to feature identification
- Proficiency in Python programming and image processing software such as ENVI/IDL, ArcPro, or QGIS
