Senior API Gateway Engineer

Job Summary

To support the IRS Enterprise API Gateway Modernization and Operations effort, the full-time Senior API Gateway Engineer will serve as the lead technical resource for configuration, troubleshooting, and engineering support of the Enterprise API Gateway, focusing on migrating from legacy systems to a new platform while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical resource for configuration, troubleshooting, and engineering support of the Enterprise API Gateway across various environments
• Design and implement API-side configurations, including routes, policies, and plugins, within approved architecture and security boundaries
• Provide technical leadership for phased API migration execution and support platform currency and technical refresh activities

Required qualifications

• 7 years of experience in API gateway engineering or similar roles
• Experience with platforms such as Google Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft Anypoint, or comparable enterprise API gateway products
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
• Preferred MBI certification
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status required; ability to obtain IRS Minimum Background Investigation security clearance
